A recent survey by the RAC based on 17 different new cars, showed that the average driver is paying £6,689 a year in motoring costs, compared with £5,870 in 2010.

Drivers have been hit by soaring fuel prices up 12.4% on last year, adding £160 to the average driver’s fuel bill.   In addition the cost of insurance has gone up by 14.38%, coupled with higher garage fees and the fall in cars’ resale value.  As a result motorists are now paying 14 per cent more than they did a year ago to run their cars; the increase is nearly three times the rate of inflation which is crippling drivers’ wallets!  Read more...

The SMMT have published figures for July 2011 which show that new car registrations declined by 3.5% in July to 131,634 units, with the overall market down 6.7% over the year-to-date, the 13th successive monthly decline in volumes.
