DON’T GET CAUGHT SHORT WHEN YOUR CAR WARRANTY RUNS OUT

Although car manufacturers such as Kia and Renault are offering their longer-than-usual warranties, and Vauxhall now offer a lifetime warranty on all Vauxhall cars registered after August 2010, many car makers still provide fairly typical 3 year warranties with their cars.

Many motorists assume that if nothing has gone wrong in the first 3 years of owning the car that nothing further is likely to go wrong.  But unfortunately making that assumption can lead to a false sense of security because as the older a car gets, the more likely it is that something will go wrong. Modern cars have thousands of components and even the smallest car part failing could result in a very expensive repair.

TAKE THE LEAP AND FEEL THE LOVE FOR YOUR CAR

If you were feeling the love on Valentine’s Day then maybe it’s time to take that leap!  2012 is leap year and on February the 29th, the extra day, all you loved up ladies will get the chance to propose to your partner.

Owning a car is a bit like a relationship – it needs regular t.l.c. and attention to keep it maintained and running smoothly.

Regular and timely maintenance can help any motorist get the maximum amount of mileage from their vehicle before having to purchase a new one. Most routine vehicle checks such as tyres, fluid levels, belts and hoses are simple enough so that they can be performed by motorists without any repair expertise.

WHEN IS A USED CAR BARGAIN NOT A USED CAR BARGAIN?

The savvy car buyer will always take their time in choosing a car and will be selective about where they are buying from.   With the current economic squeeze many used car dealers are chasing customers by being ultra-competitive on price.

Car buyers looking for used cars this year should aim to make a real comparison because, as we know, a headline price which is the cheapest does not necessarily mean the best value for money on the overall package. For example if a car is offered at £500 cheaper than its nearest comparative example but it’s just “there you go, there’s the keys anything else you want is extra” then that’s fine as long as buyers understand that this is what their money is buying them. However, when parting with your hard earned cash it pays to look at the bigger picture to avoid buying a vehicle which could cost you dearly in the long run.
