The new ‘12’ plate registrations are now here! But have you seen many on your local roads? No me neither! Unlike years gone by when the scramble for having the first of the new reg. cars on the road really meant something and the deliveries often began at midnight on the 1st, there’s a definite lack of ‘new’ reg. cars on the roads.
It seems that the continuing uncertainty in the economic climate, spiralling living costs and petrol prices all squeezing finances are leading to more motorists choosing to maintain and run their existing vehicle for longer. In the past the average motorist replaced his vehicle every 2-3 years, in the current climate it appears that car owners are now holding on to their car for at least 4-7 years.

Although car manufacturers such as Kia and Renault are offering their longer-than-usual warranties, and Vauxhall now offer a lifetime warranty on all Vauxhall cars registered after August 2010, many car makers still provide fairly typical 3 year warranties with their cars.
Many motorists assume that if nothing has gone wrong in the first 3 years of owning the car that nothing further is likely to go wrong. But unfortunately making that assumption can lead to a false sense of security because as the older a car gets, the more likely it is that something will go wrong. ELECTRIC VEHICLES NO LONGER A DREAM BUT ARE THEY REALITY?
To the delight of electric car manufacturers such as Nissan and Renault, the government have recently announced that they will be extending ‘Plug-in Grants’ to car buyers in the UK. As of 31 December 2011, 892 claims have been made through the Plug-in Car Grant scheme, with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) data showing that 1,052 cars eligible for the Grant were registered over the same period.
